SQL Express Installation - Share Names
Overview
When migrating from desktop to SQL Express or SQL Server - the SQL
engine may have difficulty finding your data files.
This is because you are viewing the files from one point of view
- complete with drive letters and drive mappings to various server
shares on your network. Your SQL Server does not have access to
these drive mappings.
The goal of the window below is to help SQL Server locate your data
file.

Migrating databases from desktop to SQL
During the migration process, a copy of each desktop data file ('brd')
is copied to a file with the extension of 'mdb'. The SQL Server
will need to locate each of these files.
If the system is not able to automatically locate the 'mdb' file,
it will prompt you to assist it with the window above.
1. Create a share
Start Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder containing the
brd and mdb files - typically
c:\Users\Public\Treasury Software\Data and right click on it.
In XP - select 'Properties', then 'Sharing' tab. Select 'Share this
folder', then apply. You're done.
In Vista and Windows 7, this is not as intuitive as it was in XP.
Then click 'Properties'.

Select the 'Sharing' tab. Then click on Advanced Sharing

Name the share - it doesn't matter what the name is - just make
a note of it - and use it in the Treasury Software screen.

2. Now enter the path in UNC format
The system should now be able to locate the files.
