ACH Reversals

Oooops. Made a mistake?
Not a problem with ACH Universal.

ACH Universal enables you to create reversing entries:

• Transactions created by another system, such as an outside payroll company
• Transactions created with ACH Universal
• An entire file created with ACH Universal

Reverse entries created by another system (Manual Add)

Do you use another system, such as a payroll processor to handle your Direct Deposit transactions?
Not a problem, you can still reverse an error using ACH Universal.

Simply enter the details into the 'Add a Record' form. If your original entry was a debit - now create a credit (and vice versa) to reverse it.

Click on the 'Reversal' hyperlink at the bottom of the form to indicate that this is a reversal.
Save the record, and transmit as you would any other transaction.

Simply 'Point and Click' to create the reversal.

Reverse an entire file (Re-import an Excel file)

Did you accidentally process an entire file twice?

If so, re-import the file with the signs reversed. To reverse the signs, either update the file in Excel, or simply change the column mapping from 'Amount' to 'Amount_Reverse_Sign' in our software (don't forget to switch it back).
Check the 'Reversal' check box in the lower left corner (see below) during the import process.
Note: Clicking the 'Reversal' check box will not reverse the sign - that is up to you. Checking the box will insert the word 'REVERSAL' in the batch header of the ACH File as required by NACHA. Of course, all of the other methods above also add the word 'REVERSAL' into the batch header as well.







NACHA Rules reminder
When creating a reversal, reverse the entire amount of the transaction.
Example - If you intended to pay a vendor $100, and ended up paying them $1,000:
--You should reverse the entire amount of $1,000. The make a new transaction of $100.
--Do NOT create a reversal for the net amount of $900.



Limitation of Reversals
ACH Universal will create the reversal transactions you want.
However, just because you send it - does not guarantee it will be honored.
Late reversals, insufficient funds in the other account, etc... are all reasons why a reversal transaction may not successfully complete.
